Our approach to Self Defense

Our self defense approach is heavily influenced by the principles of Krav Maga. Krav Maga means Contact Combat in Hebrew and it is the official fighting system of the Israeli Military. Unfortunately due to its rise in popularity in the U.S. many have tried to capitalize on that by claiming to teach Krav Maga when they in fact do not or they learned Krav Maga from a DVD or a weekend course. When you train at Uncharted Self Defense you will be taught true Krav Maga techniques as well as techniques from other martial arts that adhere to the principles of Krav Maga. Don't get hurt, one defense must address several different attacks or scenarios, every defense must be based on instinctual gross motor movement and be able to be performed under stress, and every defense must be accompanied by a simultaneous counter attack.Say for example we teach you how to defend against someone grabbing you by the throat. Can you defend it when you were unaware the attack was coming? Can you do it when you are tired and out of breathe? Can you defend it when you were expecting something else? Can you do it without hesitation? Can you immediately go from defending to attacking? We train each technique in a manner that will ensure that you can answer yes to all of those questions! Self defense should be a short term goal not a long term goal. We want you to be able to use what you've learned immediately after each class not 10 years from now after you've become a black belt.No attacker will wait for you to achieve rank nor does any attacker care about your rank. You must be able to defend yourself on any day and with a moments notice. When a violent encounter happens you will not rise to the occasion. You will fall to the level of your training. A self defense situation is tense, uncertain and rapidly evolving. You will fight the way that you train. If you train without stress then you will not be able to fight under stress. PERIOD!
